Chemotherapy

At Bisi Beauty Wig Boutique, we understand how difficult it is to face hair loss on top of a cancer diagnosis, and we’re dedicated to easing you through this transitional time. You may feel like so much of your life is out of your control, but we’re here to give you back some control—over the way you look, which in turn can make all the difference in the way you feel.

Chemotherapy affects everyone differently. Some people will lose all of their hair, while others may only experience thinning, and still others may see no effect on their hair at all. Most women do lose some or all of their hair, usually after their second treatment. It’s important to remember that most hair loss is not permanent and that hair usually grows back after treatments end.

There are many options available to you in coping with hair loss. While some women gravitate toward turbans and scarves, others are most comfortable in a wig and some choose to wear their baldness proudly. Coming to terms with the fact that you need to wear a wig can be very emotional, but a wig can also be the key to helping you feel more like yourself again. With it you can look and feel just like a ‘normal’ person, and not a cancer patient. The key is to try and embrace your wig, because there is no shame in wearing one. It can actually be fun!

It is well known that many cancer chemotherapy medications cause baldness. Most people are willing to put up with hair loss when accepting treatments for life-threatening diseases. But a large number of popular medications can cause hair loss while neither pharmaceutical industry nor your doctor will tell you about this side effect. Here we have compiled a list of drugs that are known to cause hair loss in some patients:

Chemotherapy drugs that very seldom cause hair loss Platinum drugs - Vincristine - Bleomycin - Methotrexate – Mitomycin - Mitoxantrone Melphalan - Procarbazine - Lomustine - Vinorelbine Chemotheraphy drugs that might cause hair loss Cyclophosphamide - Fluorouracil - Vinblastin Chemotherapy drugs that most likely will cause hair loss Adriamycin - Epirubicin - Etoposide (VP-16) - Nitrogen mustard - Dactinomycin - Taxol
